Our Dining Room Make Over

I love our house, but since we moved in, I have been dying to give our dining room a makeover. I tend to over romanticize things, but the dining room is a special room in my mind. Most people think of the kitchen as the heart of the home, but the dining room is the place where all your favorite people come together to share a meal. It makes me think of Thanksgiving (one of my favorite holidays) and everyone sitting around the table.
Our dining room is an intimate space, but it deserves to stand out. My vision for the room has always been to elevate the existing traditional elements like the wainscoting while adding clean new colors and modern touches.
Thanks to my Dad and Hale, we have the most gorgeous live edge table that draws your eye in and last fall we purchased modern chairs to go with it. We mimicked the look of chairs from one of our favorite Houston restaurants. We bought six gray midcentury modern chairs and two fabulous green velvet chairs with gold legs all from Wayfair.
The rest of the project was put on hold, but after our wedding and a few busy months, we finally got back to it. Between paint, a new chandelier, and few decorative touches, I am in LOVE!
After some debate, we decided to keep the original wainscoting, but freshen and modernize the room though color. We continued the use of Alabaster and painted the bottom half of the room with it. The top half was painted with Sherwin Williams’ Pewter Green.
I knew I wanted a dark color on top and tried many colors before deciding on this one. I became fixated on a few of Sherwin Williams’ popular shades of black, but im soo glad we didn’t go that route. I always suggest either buying paint samples or the peel and stick swatch options. This saved me!
While it isn’t quite done yet- we are still waiting for our live painting from our wedding- I think it turned out better than expected!
Here are the before pictures:
The room was pretty cluttered and in need of a refresh. We stored all our liquor here, but now we don’t have to- Jourdan built us a dry bar. Check it out here!
We cleared everything out and started painting.
And voila!
We still have a few finishing touches left, but I couldn’t be happier!
