My WFH Style
Today I want to share a bit about my WFH (work from home) style! I am by no means a fashion blogger, but I do love clothes and I do in fact work from home!
I am a firm believer that your clothes can make the difference between a good day and a bad day. Just because you might be the only one to see your “ootd” doesn’t mean you aren’t worth the feeling of confidence that a well put-together outfit can bring!
I would say my style is typically girly with an emphasis on being simple and comfortable. Comfortable being the key word when working from home! I will show you how I build my comfy but cute wardrobe and share some of my go-to wfh pieces.
These simple tips and tricks will elevate your style without coming close to compromising on comfort. I promise you can still feel like you’re in your pj’s while looking professional and put together!
Everything pictured here is linked!
When it comes to selecting a work from home top, I tend to gravitate towards what I like to call my “nice t-shirts”. These are really very versatile staples that any wardrobe should have. I select shirts that are well fitted with little to no writing on them- this is one time I say no to the old college Comfort Colors. Shirts without writing just make me feel more polished and put together.
When choosing my nice t-shirts I often go with simple, plain colors, but love to throw in a fun pattern or sleeve! Here are some of the ones I have been wearing lately!
This particular shirt is one of my favorites because of the sweet ruffle detail on the sleeves. This element elevates the shirt and makes it feel much dressier.
The best thing about most of these- you can totally wear a sports bra!!
I also love a good tank top. You could honestly sleep in it and roll out of bed and look great!
While they are very easy and comfortable to wear, I am somewhat picky when it comes to selecting my tank my tank tops. There is a fine line between looking adorable and looking like you are wearing an undershirt. To avoid the latter, I look for tank tops with a slightly sharper cut, good seams and hems, texture, and patterns.
Here are some of my recent favorites.
There are the occasional days where video conferencing is unavoidable, and whether you are meeting a client, patient, or boss this is still an opportunity to show that you can be stylish and professional.
In situations like this I opt for a blouse that is slightly more formal and I often go for something with sleeves. As a young woman trying to build my career, I don’t want to let any opportunity to display my professionalism go to waste.
I select tops that are a bit more formal so when on a video platform they do not appear as casual t-shirts.
Here are some good options!
If you get cold like me, especially as the seasons begin to change, a quick tip is to layer your outfit with a good overshirt or sweater!
For the bottom half of my work from home wardrobe, I really love to keep it simple. I like pieces that are basic and can be worn many different ways, and complement many different styles.
While you could just wear your pj bottoms (because lets face it, if you’re on zoom no one can see them anyways), we don’t want to be that guy who is caught with the blazer and tie on top and boxers on the bottom.
An easy way to avoid this erm… faux pas… is to pair your tops with bottoms that could pass as something more than just your old athletic shorts (even if they are your old athletic shorts). I look for pieces that have that extra element of style to create this illusion.
Even though it is technically fall here in Houston, I have been living in shorts and I often go for ones that have light, breathable material.
These shorts are my new favorites and honestly with these, you have hit the wfh jackpot. Shout out Jourd! These were a gift for my birthday! They are the perfect hybrid of style and comfort. The pleats and texture give the shorts elegance and formality while the quick dry material and elastic waist band make them feel like true loungewear.
You could go for a run in these shorts or with the right top, go out on the town. They are that transitional!
Here are a few similar options.
I also have been loving cotton shorts while at home. They are very easy to wear and a great option if you are looking for something other than the athletic style shorts. They give you a tailored look while not being too structured, so you don’t lose any comfort here.
If shorts aren’t your jam and you are looking for more pant options, these are some of my favorites. I apply the same thought process here as well. Comfortable, simple, and transitional.
Here are some similar to what I have in my closet.
I particularly love these leggings because of the seams running down the front of the leg. This simple element provides the illusion of being a tailored trouser and transforms a simple legging into a statement piece. I swear by these legging so much, I have even worn them into work and passed them off as true trousers with heels, a blazer, and the whole bit!
If I can do that in a regular work setting- think about the power these guys have from your couch!
Another easy way to look effortlessly styled is to throw on what I have dubbed at the “work from home onesie”. Seriously, a one piece = one and done!!!
But really, there is nothing easier than throwing on an athletic dress or a classic swing dress to step up your style!
These are the ones I have been wearing lately that have made me feel like a million bucks. Another easy trick to add just a bit of style is to gather a small amount of material at the hem of a swing dress and tie a little knot! You can also easily layer these with an ~old cardigan~ (thanks t-swift) for those cooler fall days.
You didn’t think I was going to forget the accessories, did you?!
Now to be honest, I debated on whether or not to include this section and I went back and forth on this a lot. This is because while I do love jewelry, I have been really lazy when it comes to this lately. In the end I felt it was important to include this because accessories are a powerful tool that have the ability to transform any outfit or look, and in a wfh scenario they can be the piece that really takes it up a notch.
So long story short, what I will share here today is not always what I would typically wear in terms of accessories, but they are the real life items I have added to my wardrobe.
I have really been focusing on casual items and these are some of the pieces I have been wearing.
I really love Pura Vida bracelets because they are colorful, and casual. You can stack as many or as few as you like. They also have a cool back story so you should definitely check them out!
Thanks to my mother and being a child of the 90’s, I have a deep love for bows and all other hair accessories, but as an adult in 2020, I have translated that love of big bows into to appropriately sized hair ties and headbands.
Here are some that I love!
I also wanted to include eye glass chains. I know it sounds crazy, but this “granny” trend is something I am totally on board with! I added a set to my glasses and it really makes it fun, pretty, and so functional! You won’t be losing your glasses around the house with these guys! I also threw a pair on my sunglasses to add a bit of style, and it helps those pesky nose pieces from getting stuck in my hair!
If you have made it this far, thank you.
Like I said at the beginning, I am no fashion blogger, but I hope this was interesting to at least someone out there! Fashion is one of those things that has the power to set the tone for your day and recently I have found that my mood is dramatically more positive on days I invest in myself, and selecting clothes that make me feel good is one way to do that.
Love always,
Kate
