Half Bath Remodel: Part 2

We are so excited to say we have finally completed the renovations and we could not be happier with how it turned out. It’s been a few months since we’ve been finished, and I can say this was such an incredible first project. All the credit goes to Jourdan and his unbelievable skills!

If you missed part one be sure to check it out here! We have been on quite a journey with this bathroom.

In part one, we last left off by only having the ceiling and the hard board painted and installed. We still needed to paint and install the batten, base boards, and door frame since we decided to also replace those.

Jourdan worked on completing these things while I was gone on a girl’s weekend, so I don’t really have any photos of this process. When I came home that Sunday, I was shocked to see such a big transformation.

While I was away, he finished painting the top half of the walls Swiss Coffee, installed and painted the batten, and installed and painted the baseboards and door frame. I could not believe the impact this had on the space!

As a cost saving measure (and also a way to test out different styles before really investing) we then opted to spray paint – yes – spray paint all of the fixtures in the bathroom to give it a more modern look. We purchased Rustoleum Flat Paint and Primer spray paint because it works on high use metals and gave it a go! We spray painted everything from the towel ring, to the faucet, all the way up the light fixture. We even painted the original mirror frame that was left from the previous owners! We opted for a matte black and we think it ties in the modern feel to the more traditional aspects of the board and batten. Overall, it feels very sleek and clean.

Once all the touch ups were made, and the paint was dry, it was time to re-install the sink which was the last big piece to this puzzle. This was one of our more comical moments… so glad we don’t have that on video! All of these design tv shows make everything look simple and easy, and well, that was a struggle!

Once the sink was in and the water worked, all that was left to do was decorate- my favorite part!!!

I wanted to keep the feeling in this space clean, modern, and simple so I kept to the neutral pallet. We have not yet decided on permanent storage over the toilet (currently the debate is floating shelves vs. a cabinet) so for the time being, I found this gem at Target for $20!!! It’s the perfect size table and I use it to hold extra toilet paper, air fresheners, and other bathroom necessities.

I also picked up this hand towel and fun trash can – I’m not sure if it’s normal to call a trash can “fun” but in this case I think it fits! It really ties in the natural dark wood in the other parts of the house and is in its own right beautiful.

And as for the artwork… I will let you in on a little secret… I painted this on the backside of the stock photo that came in the frame!

This was the last piece of decorating to do and I could not make up my mind. I wanted to hang something modern and abstract but was being too indecisive (are we surprised?!). I also considered hanging a few of my favorite black and white pictures from our travels but could not settle on which and what size. All this led to temporarily (or maybe not-so-temporarily) hanging this hand painted masterpiece!

I needed something to go on the wall and had an extra frame, so I decided to be creative! I flipped the stock photo over and used the blank backside as my canvas. I first drew out what I wanted and then painted over it with your standard black craft paint. For something so last minute and cheap I think it came out pretty well!!

All in all, this was such a fun experience. DIY home projects are no joke and really can take a lot of work, but I could not be more proud of the transformation. Day by day we make this house more and more like home.

Drop a note in the comments and let us know what you think! Also let us know of any recommendations on the shelves vs. cabinet debate!
