Adventure in TOTAL Lockdown
Jourdan and I use the word “adventure” quite a bit, and lately our adventures have been looking a bit different. As we have stated before, it’s important to find an adventure everyday – big or small.
Well, thanks to the lovely COVID-19, coronavirus, or ‘rona – whatever your vocabulary might be – we have had to search for adventure a little harder these days. Jourdan and I, like most of you, have had a dramatically altered schedule. I now work from home full time, and Jourdan alternates every other week between the plant and home. I keep a private journal and realized while writing we will now have been at home “social distancing” from the world for over a month now. This has had its ups and downs, but I am ultimately grateful for jobs that allow us to continue work from the safety of our home. We know so many individuals do not have that luxury.
While we are thankful to be at home, the excitement of not having a commute and working from our jammies has begun to wear off. Don’t get me wrong – not wearing make-up for a month was a nice break at first, but I’m starting to look and feel like a zombie. To add confetti to our pity party the two of us can’t stop watching travel videos and thinking of all the places we are not. We are the definition of cabin fever.
Like our previous post said, in order to stop feeling so sorry for ourselves we made sort of an “adventure pact” with each other. Maybe “adventure promise” is more accurate? Either way, we decided to create our own fun everywhere we go. This time apart from the world has taught us a great lesson. We must appreciate the little things as well as the big things (when we can do those bigger things one day), and don’t take a single person in your life for granted. It’s also important to appreciate the slower pace of life and do some self-reflecting.
In order to create our own adventures during this time, Jourdan and I have explored and experimented with new hobbies. We have also learned a lot about each other during this time – who knew it’s not socially acceptable to start a puzzle from the center and not the edges??? We now cook dinner regularly and try out new recipes – we aren’t half bad! We “hike” at our local city park (this is Houston but we can pretend), throw the frisbee anywhere there is sunshine, and believe it or not we are now runners! I would hate for you to actually see us running but that’s beside the point!
We have also found a way to fulfill our need to travel during these times. We have become quite the grounded travelers, filling our virtual passports with stamps from Mexico, Italy, and Asia. All it takes to get there is a little imagination and a local drink for authenticity!
As this time of uncertainty continues, we continue to find the silver lining in every day. We hope you stay healthy and safe and maybe we will see you in Mexico next time we are there!
